The Trust welcomes 500 new students to Cambridge
On Saturday 12 October, the Cambridge Trust hosted a Welcome Event for all those scholars it supports who are commencing their studies at the University of Cambridge this academic year.
The Trust made 500 awards this year to students of outstanding academic merit, and 331 of those scholars were in attendance at the event, representing 103 countries from Australia to Zimbabwe.
With the support of a wide range of scholarships – the Trust this year offered awards in the name of 180 different scholarships, illustrating the breadth of the partners with whom the Trust collaborates – these students will be undertaking degree courses in a range of subjects, from Advanced Computer Science to Zoology.
The event was held in the Student Services Centre, where the Trust’s office is located along with a myriad of University student service teams who work within the building, providing frontline support to students. Students were able to meet members of the Trust team as well as members of the Trust's board, Professor Loraine Gelsthorpe, Professor Catherine Barnard and Dr David Secher who also attended the event.
Helen Pennant, the Trust’s Director, congratulated the students on having been successful in winning scholarships, particularly as the Trust receives in the region of 4,000 applications for funding each year.
